Description: This type of altimeter is a precision aneroid barometer that translates barometric (air) pressure into altitude. Temperature compensation calculations, as well as calculations to account for diurnal barometric change need to be recorded during use. In the field the survey altimeter first must be placed at a known elevation point and the instrument set to this reading. Object ID: USGS-000358
