DetailsTitle: Engineer's or Wye Level with Case Description: Manufactured by W. & L.E. Gurley, Troy, New York, before 1950. The case is original, marked ""HYDROGRAPHY / U.S.G.S." and "1939". The case includes an adaptive re-use of a belt as the carrying strap. The instrument has serial #1749 and was used in the U.S. Geological Survey Water Resource Discipline's New York district gauging stations, particularly during construction and annual maintenance trips. The term Hydrography has not been used for several decades. The tripod for this level is also in the museum collection.
