Since 1972, the joint NASA/ U.S. Geological Survey Landsat series of Earth Observation satellites have continuously acquired images of the Earth’s land surface, providing uninterrupted data to help land managers and policymakers make informed decisions about natural resources and the environment.
Landsat is a part of the USGS National Land Imaging (NLI) Program.

Landsat Collection 2 Reprocessing of Landsat 8 Images Acquired in 2015
During Landsat Collection 2 data processing in 2020, several Landsat 8 images acquired from November 1 and November 2, 2015 were processed to Level-1 products with misaligned Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) spectral bands. These images were quickly identified and removed from the USGS archive soon after the release of Collection 2 on December 1, 2020.
